We’re Short of Heroes

We’ve got superheroes out the wazoo, thanks to our, ahem, “entertainment” industry. Superheroes for every conceivable occasion.

But not for real life. We did have one hero, President Donald Trump, but the global ruling class ran him right over. Took ’em four years to do it, but they did it. And now the good guys are powerless and there’s no one to stop the bad guys from running on all fours into Hell, as St. Gildas once put it.

We don’t need superheroes. We need real heroes–like, for instance, Fanny Crosby. Blinded by an incompetent doctor shortly after she was born, Fanny wrote some 8,000 hymns, many of which are still well-loved today. That’s a hero. Never mind the silly costumes.

And I’ll bet we could find these heroes, if we looked. Find them, celebrate them, and follow their examples. Most of the good people have been driven out of politics–out of most of our institutions, I daresay. So we won’t look there. They’ll turn up in unexpected places.

But one thing we’re fabulously rich in, and that’s anti-heroes. Bad guys. Huge bad guys like George Soros, Mark Zuckerberg, and whoever’s pulling the strings for Joe Biden. And lots and lots of little villains who riot when BLM says riot and think they’re fighting fascism because fascists have told them so. And the medium-sized villains who train and instruct the multitude of useful idiots. Not to mention the bad guys in China, Russia, and Iran.

We pray the Lord our God will turn the ungodly against each other, as He has done so many times in history. When good guys are in short supply, He can use bad guys to tear and rend the other bad guys. Sennacherib, king of Assyria–invincible, the big cheese, proud enough to mock God–first he lost his army to the plague, and when he got back home, his own sons murdered him.

Liu Shao Chi, president of Red China: a devout communist, but the only man in China that had the courage to call Mao out for the Great Leap Forward–an experiment in mass murder that cost some tens of millions of innocent lives. Mao had Liu murdered by his doctors, but not before Liu stopped the killing spree.

God will find persons who will do His will. They will commit crimes against criminals, as did the sons of Sennacherib, or suddenly find themselves moved, like Liu, to stand for the right no matter what the cost.

Be uneasy on your thrones, you self-dubbed masters of the universe. The only God has taken your names, and judgment is coming.

This little essay (in 2019) by Mark Rushdoony is as good as a sermon–especially now, when it looks like the ungodly own all the reins of power and can no more be restrained.

It brings to my mind these lines from a hymn, This Is My Father’s World:

“This is my Father’s world, and let me ne’er forget/ That tho’ the wrong seems oft so strong,/ God is the ruler yet.”

Mark launches his text from the book of Esther: “The story of Esther is not primarily about the salvation of God but of His government, particularly as it works through unbelievers.”

Through unbelievers? Yes! When there are no good guys around to stop the bad guys, God will use other bad guys against them–or even, as He did to Pharaoh in the days of Moses, against themselves. But yes, He will work through unbelievers… whether they like it or not.

There is no corner in Heaven or on earth where God is not the sovereign Lord of All.

 

The Evil Must Not Stand

With the media gaslighting us 24/7 (“Joe Biden is our president! He is, he is!”) and the surrender monkeys up on Capitol Hill all set to hand the country over to crooks and predators with whom they’ve shared the booty for years, and every villain’s hand raised against our president, Donald Trump–well, we just have to pray harder!

Government by Manufactured Consent must not be allowed to stand. This monstrous travesty of an election, with evidence of fraud and crime heaped up as high as the sky, must be overturned–even if it takes the hand of God to do it.

Crime must not flourish. Criminals must not seize control of countries. People seem to think, “Aw, what the hell does it matter, it’ll just go back to business as usual…”

Are you mad? Do you not listen? We are drifting into the hands of exceedingly wicked people whose notion of “normal”–trust me!–you don’t ever want to see. They committed this great unprecedented crime of stealing an election because they expected a fabulous reward! For them, not for you.

Oh Lord our God! Our sins, our folly, our sloth have gotten us into all this trouble, from which we cannot climb out without your aid. Your anger against us is righteous and just. But we entreat you, O God, to set aside your anger and let it fall instead on the heads of the wicked persons who have done this thing: America’s enemies, foreign and domestic. Smite them, O Lord! Deliver us out of their hands. Not for our sake, but for Jesus’ sake. Not for our sake, but for your own name’s sake: that all the world might see your glory and your power; that all the world might know that you are God. In Jesus’ name and by the power of Jesus’ name, Amen.

God’s Faithfulness Will Not Fail

Martin Selbrede: Chalcedon's Scholar

Usually I wait for Arise & Build articles to be published on Chalcedon’s website (www.chalcedon.edu/) before I comment on them, so I can provide you with a link to them. But “The Victory of Truth,” by Martin Selbrede, is too inspiring to wait for. Once it’s on the website, I’ll link to it and you can read it. But for the time being, let this suffice.

Martin’s text is Romans 3:4, “Let God be true but every man a liar.” He quotes John Murray: “[T]he unbelief of men does not bring to nought the faithfulness of God.”

What does that mean? It means that even if no one believes God’s word anymore, He will still carry out His plan. He is, after all, God.

And if we seek to enter into God’s labors as His servants, and He is pleased to accept us, that’s only an expression of love and respect on both sides of the bargain. God’s will shall yet prevail even if all of us fail Him. God is not a human general who can lose a battle because one of his subordinate commanders fails to carry out his orders.

Is this good news, or what? God has promised to put all Creation under the sovereign kingship of His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ–and He will do it. All who oppose Him are merely headed for the fire.

We are not given a timetable for this. We are called upon to exercise our faith. As St. Paul put it, “For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it” (Rom. 8:24-25).

Work, pray, hope–and believe!

The earth is the Lord’s. He created it, He sustains it day by day, and it belongs to Him. He’s not going to sit there sucking His thumb while we sinful human pipsqueaks Destroy The Planet.

I write fantasy novels. They are clearly labeled as such.

But I fear those fantasies called “public policy” and “science.” And even more I fear God, who can hardly be expected to put up with this forever.

I don’t know when The Wind from Heaven will be published, but I’d like to share with you, in advance, a paragraph.

Obst is the speaker. For those who haven’t read any of the books, Obst is the former hermit who has become the teacher to King Ryons’ army–men who were born Heathen, but have come to God.

Here, in a moment of crisis, is his thought.

“The wind from Heaven,” he thought, “is blowing hard today!” Scattering all sorts of people in all directions, it looked like chaos and confusion. “But it is all the work of God, who is the only one who sees the pattern in it.” For the Scriptures had taught him that God never loses His grip on the reins of history, and guides it where He will. ****

Something for us to bear in mind, as we confront the crises of our own time.

When I wrote this a few years ago, I had not yet observed that the Pew Poll is all over the map when it comes to religious issues. So of course it sounded really bad: “49% of people who have left the church no longer believe in God or miracles.”

Which is another way of saying 51% still do.

But God is not running for office. He is still God whether we believe in him or not.

And believing in “science,” or government, or the innate goodness of human beings–well, heck, I’ve got a really nice bridge to sell you…

We Defy the Gloom and Doom!

We know it’s mere extortion: “Submit to a global government, or die!” “Your tax money or your life!” And so on.

Absent from all the humanist gloom-and-doom scenarios is any acknowledgement of God–who made the heavens and the earth, and all that is in them; who sustains them moment to moment by His providence; of whom it is written, “God is love.” The Lord of hosts, mighty in battle: there is no God like Jehovah.

So, yeah, fine–civilizations come and go, He sets ’em up and He sets ’em down according to His sovereign purpose. For all those civilizations toppling into the landfill of history, well–God’s word has outlived them all and God’s people are still here. It doesn’t just turn into Mad Max.

Twice God overthrew the world: first, when He drowned it in the Great Flood, and again, when He confounded their language as they were building the Tower of Babel. It belongs to Him, it’s His property. But of course the unbelievers, who would be as gods themselves, need a scenario in which man, without God, destroys the world.

Because the earth is the Lord’s, and we are His people, the sheep of His hand, we defy the humanist gloom and doom and proclaim the coming of the Lord–in His own good time, when He’s thoroughly good and ready. We know that Jesus Christ the Son of God didn’t die on the cross, rise from the tomb, show Himself alive to those who’d seen Him die, and ascend into heaven for nothing. So you can all tear down and replace civilizations to your hearts’ content: but we are Christ’s people, sunshine–not yours, not the state’s, but His, redeemed with His blood and heirs to His promise.

Sing the hymn loud and sing it louder! Worship the King, all glorious above.
