Are These Really the Last Days?

The disciples asked Jesus, “Tell us, when shall these things be?” And Jesus said, “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” (Matthew 24: 3,36)

And when the Pharisees demanded an answer to the same question, Jesus said, “The kingdom of God cometh not with observation.” (Luke 17:20)

So my short answer to the question can only be, “How could I possibly know?”

I would say most of my fellow Christians believe that these are, if not the last days themselves, then at least their precursor. It’s not my place to say they’re right or wrong, because I don’t know.

But this fallen world has known other ages that must certainly have convinced people that the end was right around the corner.

*The fall of Rome in A.D. 410 and the ensuing collapse of Roman civilization throughout Western Europe.

*The seemingly irresistible aggressions of Islam during the 7th and 8th centuries, culminating in the fall of Constantinople in 1453.

*The Black Death in the 1300s.

*The Thirty Years’ War, in the 1600s.

*Most of the Twentieth Century, including two world wars, several holocausts (such as Mao’s Great Leap Forward, which forced untimely death on at least 40 million Chinese in just five years), the use of nuclear weapons, and the flowering of most of the toxic, pernicious follies that afflict our 21st century.

Like many of you, I pray every day that the Lord would deliver us out of this evil age, which is more evil, more monstrous, and more insane than anything I could ever have imagined.

We are all enjoined by Our Lord to watch, and be found at our posts when He comes. If He comes tomorrow, we will all rejoice. If He comes a thousand years from now, we’ll have to watch from Heaven, and do our rejoicing there.

If anyone demands of us a date for Christ’s return, they’re only doing it to find an excuse to laugh at us. Let’s not give them one. Let’s watch and be ready, as Our Lord commanded. Do the work He has given us, hope, pray… and love.

I don’t know what else to say.

A Grim Little Insight from History

Consider this quote by Edward Gibbon, from The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Chapter XV:

“The incapacity of a weak and distracted government may often assume the appearance and produce the effects of a treasonable correspondence with the public enemy.”

Which, I think, explains why we are so often moved to ask, concerning our own national leaders today, “Are they wrecking the country on purpose?”

As Gibbon summed up the causes that led directly to the fall of Rome, he noted:

*The destruction of the middle class, leaving only a small stratum of the super-rich and a vast population of the intractably poor, most of them on welfare.

*Public entertainment that became a substitute for work and family life.

*Wave after wave of invading barbarians–many of whom had been invited into Italy by the Roman authorities themselves. And why? As our own leaders might have put it, “to do work that Romans won’t do.”

Does any of this sound at all familiar?

If history is sometimes boring, it is also sometimes shocking.

Uh, virtually nothing.

They think we won our independence from China in 1872.

They think our Founding Fathers included Jesse Ventura and John Wilkes Booth. And also somebody named “Jeremiah.”

They are not new arrivals from countries far away, but home-grown Americans–disabled by an American public school education.

It’s hard to hold on to something that you don’t value.

It’s going to be hard to hold on to America.

Dem Platform Committee: Prosecute ‘Climate Change Deniers’

If you’re even thinking about allowing another Democrat, ever again, to be president, please stop it at once.

A few days ago the Democrat platform drafting committee voted unanimously to have the Dept. of “Justice” prosecute individuals and organizations for being skeptical of that ultimate lib faith statement, Man-Made Climate Change. Yup, they wish to outlaw an opinion. They’ll start with going after energy companies and “corporations,” but they also have their eyes on conservative think tanks and dissenting scientists ( http://beforeitsnews.com/opinion-conservative/2016/06/democratic-party-platform-to-call-for-prosecution-of-climate-change-deniers-3155271.html ).

And if you folks permit Hillary “Cash” Clinton to become president, this wildly flagrant violation of the First Amendment–its virtual repeal, for all practical purposes, will be upheld, 5-4, by a Supreme Court wherein the late Justice Scalia will have been replaced by some commie chosen by the Democrats.

It’s this simple, everybody. Either Trump defeats Clinton, or you lose your First Amendment rights.

Because you don’t think they’ll stop there, do you?

 

Pope Threatens to Excommunicate God

Having just declared that Catholics ought to apologize to “gays” ( http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2016/06/27/pope-church-gays-treatment/86425734/ ), it only remains for Pope Francis I, aka Comrade Pope, to say that God ought to apologize, too.

If there were any truth to this story which I am making up to make a point, the Pope would chide God Almighty for “Creating us capable of all sorts of sexual pleasures, you name it, and then not letting us enjoy it! Like, how mean is that??? Saying the only sex you can have is within a marriage–a man and a woman, no less! How dreadfully uninclusive! I mean, really, God has got a lot to answer for! And He had better straighten out, like real soon, or I’m gonna excommunicate Him!”

Now it is true that sinners sin, and that we are all sinners, some tempted this way, others tempted another way. Our problem is never with the sinner who struggles, and on his own is just not strong enough to achieve righteousness–which applies to every single one of us.

Our problem is with those wicked individuals who declare that their sin is not a sin, the Bible is wrong, God is wrong, and you’d better join them in “celebrating” it, or else. It is not the sin that’s the problem, but the out-and-out rebellion against God’s plainly stated word.

But I think it would surprise me to hear that this Pope ever reads the Bible.

The Globalist Sky is Falling

When the people of Britain voted the other day to secede from the European Union, there was great wailing and gnashing of teeth among the Citizens of the World crowd. They don’t want to be British! They want to be transnational. Or whatever.

Gee, too bad they don’t have what we have, here in the USA. Here, when liberals get an election result that they don’t like–e.g., Proposition 8 in California, reserving marriage to one man and one woman–they can always find a Democrat judge to overturn it. I guess they don’t have that in Britain.

Since the late 19th century it’s been fashionable among self-admiring leftids to despise their own countries and pine away for various kinds of super-states.

Note: The root of this ideology is religious. Unable to believe in God, in Jesus Christ, humanists must look elsewhere for their salvation. They always wind up looking in the mirror for it. Their spirits can soar no higher than good ol’, great ol’ Homo sapiens and those glorious extensions of himself, the state and Science. That these institutions cannot deliver salvation doesn’t seem to matter.

No one can blame the Europeans for trying to prevent world wars from sweeping across their continent. But they refuse to see war as arising from the sinful human heart. They seek an institutional origin. That way, all they’ve got to do is tweak and tinker with their institutions, and voila!–they’ll have perfected man himself.

Before long the smoke of Brexit will have blown away, the stock markets will right themselves, and normal people will discover–if they didn’t already know it–that they never did need the EU to carry on trade, to enjoy peaceful and friendly intercourse with other nations, or any of those other things that are routinely done when a nation’s heart is right.

All they’ve lost is some unelected bureaucrats in Brussels to tell them what to do.

P.S. to Regular Readers: I’ve just returned from the hospital. Poor Aunt Joan! It distresses me to see her confined to a bed, etc. But she is much, much better than she was on Thursday, and it looks like she’s going to pull through. Please keep praying for us, folks. I do appreciate it!

Have They All Gone Mad?

The news gets crazier day by day, and it seems the whole ruling class of the Western world has been struck mad: not just the politicians and the bosses, but the noozies, the teachers, the celebrities–the whole lot of them.

They do things that simply make no sense and which cannot possibly benefit their countries or societies.

Not content with the damage wrought by “gay” activism, they feverishly promote all kinds of transgender lunacy. To hear them tell it, the world has an epidemic of transgenderism. All of a sudden, like. And it must be encouraged at all costs!

America’s current leaders do everything they can think of to stir up racial animosities. We’ve heard of “divide and rule,” but this seems to be heading more toward “destroy and rule.” It is impossible to see how this in any way benefits the country.

In spite of all experience, all the national leaders of the West have a mania for trying to jam-pack as many Muslims into their countries as they can, while making absolutely no effort whatsoever to assimilate the ones they already have. They go so far as to deny there’s any such thing as violent Islamic radicalism, and refuse to lift a finger to protect their own people from it.

There’s more, much more; but this is a blog post, not a magazine article.

In all of these absurd public policies, there is nothing at all to be gained by the country that adopts them. So why, why, why are they doing it? Has God struck our leaders mad, prior to destroying them? Or has He simply stepped aside to let their folly run its course?

The latter is the more frightening scenario.

Gagging History

The study of history is very much an effort to find out what really happened–a truly difficult thing to accomplish, riddled with questions that are almost never fully answered.

People lie. People forget. They misremember things. Information gets lost. So even the best history is usually only an approximation of what really happened. But in that history is the collective biography and memory of the human race, it’s kind of important.

Which makes deliberate efforts to distort, stretch, shrink, or mangle history all the more contemptible. It’s hard enough to recover true history without anybody actively trying to make that impossible.

Our beloved leaders have tried to do just that, with Attorney General Loretta Lunch–er, Lynch–who was confirmed by Republican Senators, by the way–ordering the Dept. of Justice–justice!–to erase all references to Islam and ISIS from the official–official!–transcript of the 50-second phone call made by the perpetrator of the Orlando Massacre, 49 dead and 53 wounded, with the killer yelling “Allah akbar!” and pledging allegiance to ISIS.

Within 24 hours the Attorney General had to put the deleted words back in ( http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/06/20/fbi-doj-release-new-full-transcript-orlando-shooters-911-call.html ). We are told she did this “under pressure from Republican leaders” in Congress, a claim we are free to disbelieve.

She did it because it was going to put the whole country into an uproar if she didn’t.

The Obama administration’s non-stop efforts to sanitize Islamic jihad grow increasingly bizarre. How many people do Muslim fanatics have to murder before these freaks in Washington even admit that radical Islam exists?

But they would much rather convince the public that the Orlando Massacre–one Omar “I pledge allegiance to ISIS!” Mateen the sole proprietor–was perpetrated by Christians, Republicans,  Donald Trump,  the NRA, by Climate Change Deniers, whatever.

This time they didn’t get away with it, because Lynch’s ploy was clumsy and heavy-handed and even the Congressional Republicans could see her doing it.

When people someday study the history of this evil age, how much of what they read will actually be true? And how much of it Obama-ized beyond repair?

From a history textbook published in 2216: The destruction of the World Trade Center, New York City, on Sept. 11, 2001, is now known to be the work of Quakers…

Erasing Our History

A homeowner in Lafayette, Georgia, has been ordered by the town’s housing authority to remove a Civil War historical display that he’s had on his lawn for three years, citing anonymous “complaints” ( http://www.wrcbtv.com/story/32157040/north-georgia-man-asked-to-remove-civil-war-display-from-yard ). He says the purpose of the display is to educate townspeople and tourists about Walker County’s role in the war.

But it seems the local authorities don’t want this kind of education.

Liberals make war on the past. They make war on the dead, presumably because the dead can’t defend themselves. But what they’re really after is to do away with history, because they want us plebs to “know” only what they wish us to know, even if it isn’t true. One might even say especially if it isn’t true.

History is the human race’s memory. A person who has lost his memory has amnesia. It is a considerable disadvantage.

We’d better hold on to our history. A whole nation suffering from amnesia is easy pickings for its predatory leaders.

Was This What We Fought D-Day For?

Seventy-two years ago today, June 6, 1944, Allied forces stormed the German-held beaches of Normandy to free Western Europe from the Nazis.

It was a great sacrifice–and look what we’ve got to show for it.

In Alaska, a boy competed in a state track meet for girls. He has also played on his high school’s girls’ volleyball and basketball teams ( http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2016/06/05/hs-track-athlete-was-born-male-but-identifies-as-female-and-took-home-3rd-place-in-the-girls-200-meter-dash-at-state-championships/ ). The noozies exulted in a headline: “HS track athlete was born male…”

Uh-huh. Only thing is, he still is a male. Every single one of his chromosomes, millions of them, is a male chromosome. And always will be.

“Yeah, but, yeah but–he identifies as female!” Oh, well–and that actually makes him one, does it? There are also people who identify as raccoons, flashlights, or Napoleon Bonaparte.

Hit them beaches, boys! We’re risking death so your grandsons can call themselves your granddaughters! And everybody else will have to say it’s so, or else get harassed for being biggits.

Let’s just pray we’re not called upon to fight another D-Day soon.
