‘Cherry-Picking at Our Peril’

See the source image

In the Ancient Near East, there was no universally-accepted calendar. The same kinds of “discrepancies” are found in every kingdom’s annals.

In this April 30 Chalcedon blog post, Mark Rushdoony tackles the question of whether the Bible is accurate as to matters of historical fact.

Critics like to point to supposed “discrepancies” within the Bible: for example, when it comes to stating how many years were in the reign of a king of Israel or Judah. At that point in world history, there was no widely-accepted standard of timekeeping, no universal calendar. Nor, within the same kingdom, was there any agreement as to when a king’s reign actually began or ended. So naturally the numbers will differ, here and there.

The point is, the Bible is 100% reliable and, as the Word of God, 100% authoritative–even when we can’t understand some of the historical details.

If your faith stands or falls by how well the numbers tally in Kings and Chronicles, there’s not much to it.

Journalism: A Travesty (Part 2)

See the source image

Once upon a time there was this image of the reporter as a hard-headed, skeptical, show-me type. Those women who were the infantry of local journalism in the 1970s–they could see through a brick wall; and what they saw, they wrote.

I don’t know whether to laugh or to cry. I was a newspaperman: reporter and editor. And I’m ashamed of what my former profession, once an honorable profession, has become.

The hard-headed, skeptical reporter is extinct. Oh, there are cryptozoological reports about isolated members of the species surviving in out-of-the-way places in the hinterland; but you won’t see them unless you look real hard.

No one outdoes today’s free and independent press when it comes to believing pure crapola and pushing it on the public. A man gets his junk chopped off, shoots up with female hormones, and says he’s a “woman”; and every single noozie in the Western world calls this wacko “she” and “her” and makes like the guy really is a woman now–and piles on anyone who says different. Could anything be more soft-headed, more credulous? There would be no “transgender” without the nooze media.

Once upon a time reporters didn’t just pass along the Far Left talking points. Once upon a time reporters questioned what they were told, and kept on asking questions till they got the truth. (Most of them, at least–The New York Times parted company with truth quite a few years ago.) But today noozies never question anything, no matter how preposterous, said by any Democrat.

That’s why they keep banging the drum for Russian Collusion, never mind there wasn’t any. It’s “the narrative.” It serves the Democrat Party. So the noozies have it on the menu every day.

Okay, sure–it’s true that the TV nooze networks, even that far back, were about as straight as corkscrews. Ditto the major print media. Democrats are nostalgic for those days when Walter Cronkite spun his spiel and the whole country believed him because there was no meaningful competition. We thank God for His providence: the Internet has put an end to that, let Google and Facebook try as they will to establish themselves as an information monopoly. There always have been and always will be corrupt, dishonest news media.

But there certainly used to be more honesty in the news than there is now. And don’t tell me any different, because I was there.

‘The Mystery of the Jersey Devil’ (2015)

This is their sequel, “The Phantom of the Pines”

I post this as a tribute to my brother-in-law, Ray, who wrote the book on the Jersey Devil. Well, this book, at least. And a sequel.

The Mystery of the Jersey Devil

If you ever have occasion to read Weird N.J. Magazine, you’ll learn that people are still having run-ins with the Jersey Devil today.

Ray died last year, but his work lives on.

‘The Old Rugged Cross’ (Burl Ives)

Phoebe asked for more hymns by Burl Ives, so more hymns by Burl Ives we’ve got.

I don’t often post The Old Rugged Cross. If it brings a tear to your eye, that’s okay. I know a swordsman who has that reaction, too.

Brave Kittens vs. the Mummy

In fact, the Mummy never appears in this video. The kittens scared him off.

So much energy! It reminds me of the night we brought Buster and Missy home, and soon wound up asking each other, “Are you sure there’s only two of them?”

And then they grow up and want to sleep all the time. Go figure.

New Video!

Okay! We’ve finally got Joshua and Jeremy singing, so let’s give them a big hand! Well, we can’t really do that on computers, but you know what I mean.

By Request, ‘Create in Me a Clean Heart’

This is Psalm 51 set to music–the Psalm David wrote when he realized how grievously he’d sinned in taking Bathsheba for his wife after arranging for her husband, Uriah, to be killed in battle. We all need to prayer this prayer: “Create in me a clean heart and a right spirit.”

Requested by Erlene, sung by girls from Fountainview Academy, and filmed on Moonstone Beach, California–Create in Me a Clean Heart.

Note to Dr. Credulous: You’re Fired

Sorry, Doc, but you are cut from the team. Vamoose! And don’t let the door hit you in the kiester as you leave.

I thought it might be nice to give some space on this blog to someone who believes what he hears from the nooze media and Hollywood; but heck, we’ve already got Joe Collidge for that. And there are still millions of nooze-eaters out there who think Hillary shoulda been president only darn old Donald Trump did Collusion With The Russians.

They’ve already got a voice, and more of a voice than is good for America. Dr. Credulous, you’ll just have to go back to teaching Intersectional Gender Fluid Superhero Self-Stimulation at Harvard.

‘Cause we don’t need you here.

Journalism: a Travesty

See the source image

I’m ashamed that I was once a “journalist,” a newspaper reporter and editor, back in the day. To be sure, in the 1970s it was still an honorable profession in which we who practiced it took pride. Things that are routinely done today, and called “journalism,” would have once moved real reporters to contempt. We would have laughed off the press table anybody who behaved like that. But nobody did.

Well, that’s all changed.

Poynter, an “institute” funded by the Dark Lord, George Soros, supposedly for “training writers and reporters,” has listed 29 top conservative news providers as “unreliable” and “un-news” (https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/techwatch/corinne-weaver/2019/05/02/journalism-institute-poynter-tries-blacklist-29). The list was compiled by some commie who works for the Far Left hate group, Southern Poverty Law Center. One might almost think the whole thing was a joke.

But of course the newest thing in journalism, the newest technique, is to write up the story before you do the interviews, before you see the video, before you have any of the information–because as long as the story fits the “narrative”–modern-day nooze-talk for big fat lie–you’ve done your job.

This is what happened in two notoriously shameful examples of narrative journalism–the Covington High School kids and the Jussie Smollett case. In both, the alleged journalists in the nooze media–along with Democrat politicians and assorted Hollywood losers–dove in headfirst: only to discover, quite soon afterward, that the story didn’t happen like the way they were reporting it. They didn’t care.

Once upon a time, even reporters who were total wastes of space in their personal lives still tried to live up to standards–standards like accuracy, thoroughness, truth-telling, fair play, that simply don’t exist anymore.

The result is a mainstream nooze media that’s unworthy of our trust: we know they’re lying to us. I call it the Walter Duranty school of journalism, after the New York Times reporter who won a Pulitzer for being Josef Stalin’s cheerleader and public relations agent.

Remember Dan Rather and his “fake but accurate” story of George W. Bush and the National Guard? Even as late as 2004, a big nooze gasbag like Rather could (and did!) actually lose his job for bamboozling the public and getting caught. That was only 15 years ago!

The speed with which our mainstream “journalism” has deteriorated is a frightening thing to contemplate.
