Court: You Can’t Force People to Say Stupid Stuff

The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that a university cannot force a professor (or anyone else) to address a so-called “transgender” student by a “preferred pronoun”–that is, they can’t make you call a girl “mister” just because she insists she’s a man (https://www.christianpost.com/news/6th-circuit-sides-with-christian-prof-in-trans-pronoun-case.html?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=b30d43f9-9484-459e-a922-c301b2b5a6ec).

Which was what Shawnee State Looniversity tried to do to a philosophy professor: knuckle under or lose your job. They got it past a district court, but the Sixth Circuit reversed that ruling.

I mean, really–what value has the First Amendment if they can make you say things you believe to be not only untrue, but wicked according to your religion? Whose idea of “freedom” is that? [Hint: a liberal’s.]

So now the professor can sue Shawnee State for damages, and let’s pray he sets them back a bundle. Because this must stop.

What else are they going to try to make you say, once they’ve got the “trans” nailed down? They heap abomination on top of abomination, and still expect to prosper.

But I don’t call losing our freedom (to say nothing of our dignity!) prospering.

What do you do for extra credit–riot?

I’m not going to spend a lot of time on this because it depresses me. But the nooze is the nooze.

First, though, get a load of this lead by the Associated Press: “As America reels from its latest spate of deadly hate crimes and racism…” (https://ktla.com/news/california/after-years-of-debate-california-approves-ethnic-studies-curriculum-for-k-12-schools/). As a former newspaper editor and reporter, who worked hard and tried to do the job as best he could, I can hardly find words for how much this Peking Review/Pravda/Daily Worker-style of pseudo-journalism upsets me. The AP also reminds its defenseless readers that “education is an essential strategy for combating hate.”

Anybody got a barf bag?

So the State Bored of Education voted 11-0 to ring in this curriculum, mostly warmed-over BLM hogwash, some 900 pages of it. It’s for all grades, K-12, and focuses on all the evil racist things America has done to certain minorities. By the time they’ve finished 12 grades of this, those kids are really going to hate America.

Your tax dollars, people! Your money! You pay for this, but you don’t own it! How fair is that?

And why, oh, why does anybody send their children to these propaganda mills?

I’m coming to believe that that’s a sin.

The Oxford University Music Dept. is thinking about getting rid of sheet music… because it’s “too colonial” and tainted with “complicity in white supremacy” (https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/3946344/posts).

Yes, the ability to read music is obviously a product of white supremacy and must be done away with. Like classical music itself. No more Mozart, no more Beethoven–only rap matters.

Ah, well, they’ve already turned most of our popular music into garbage; and someday the only way you’ll ever hear Beethoven’s 9th Symphony again is if some old man is whistling it while he shaves and he’s left the bathroom window open.

And you thought our American colleges were the only ones this full of crap!

‘How C.S. Lewis Predicted the Woke Nightmare’

We should listen to great writers, even fantasy writers, when they warn us off doing stupid stuff that will make bad things happen. They are very often right. But we hardly ever listen, do we?

Check out this essay by Jared Whitley in townhall.com, March 27: “How C.S. Lewis Predicted the Woke Nightmare” (https://townhall.com/columnists/jaredwhitley/2021/03/27/how-cs-lewis-predicted-woke-education-could-turn-democracy-into-dictatorship-n2586801). These predictions are to be found in “Screwtape Proposes a Toast,” an addendum to Lewis’ famous The Screwtape Letters. If you haven’t read that yet, you really should.

Lewis realized that “the term democracy can be warped into destroying excellence, first in the halls of education and then to society at large, to make sure everyone stays ‘equal’.” Bingo! Bullseye!

And how do you water down excellence? Pass/Fail courses. Dumb down the curriculum. Meaningless stupid courses that stultify the brain. And, indispensably, “all, or nearly all, citizens can go to universities”–because if practically everybody has one of those watered-down college degrees, what’s the degree worth?

“Corruption of language” is also important. Suddenly words mean anything you, personally, want them to mean–and no one can understand what anyone else is talking about.

It’s always easier to build down than to build up. We’ll never find a way to make everybody smart, but we can certainly make a lot of people stupid. Our whole system of public education is living proof of that.

The university was once the repository of humanity’s collective wisdom and experience.

Now it’s a moron factory.

Why does that make me think of another cautionary tale–The Island of Dr. Moreau, by H.G. Wells? Whose books, by the way, were a lot wiser than he was.

See? That’s the publisher’s logo. I’m not kidding. University of Hell.

But if they do publish books in Hell, they’ll publish this one–Erase the Patriarchy: an anthology of erasure poetry. No, I will not mention the author by name. I suspect she may be not all there.

But wait, there’s more! What is “erasure poetry,” anyway? Well, according to an erasure poetry website, it’s “a form of found poetry [someone else has already written it] wherein a poet [or a nitwit] takes an existing text and erases, blacks out, or otherwise obscures a large portion of the text, creating a wholly new work from what remains.” It can also serve as “a means of confrontation,” in case you feel the urge to confront a poem. At least a poem can’t grab your nose and twist it because it’s tired of hearing your babble.

This has gotta be college junk. No way this horse-schiff survives outside the looniversity.

What ever made the perky publicist think I’d want to review a road-apple called Erase the Patriarchy? I wouldn’t mind erasing academic feminists. Well, not really erasing them. Just sending them off to live on a planet with no men on it for them to harass. And if they wind up cutting each other’s throats–well, who knew that would happen?

This is what you get when your deluded society decides everyone just has to go to college, everyone, no more reserving it to scholars; and you flatten it out and dumb it down so even the most paltry intellects can harvest a degree. You get crapola. You get crapola on steroids.

I think they made it bad on purpose–don’t you? With the schools controlled by Far Left teacher unions and crack-brained “education” theorists, Job. No. 1 for the schools is to produce mobs of useful idiots for the Democrat Party to manipulate as needed. This is why they want to keep lowering the voting age. With enough illegals pouring in and obtaining cheap citizenship, and enough hypnotized 14-year-olds voting, Democrats won’t have to go to the trouble of rigging elections anymore.
